Schmitt was among the 31 Senate Republicans who voted against final passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, a bill to raise the debt ceiling. In February 2025, when NBC's Kristen Welker asked Schmitt the same question posed to Tulsi Gabbard during her Director of National Intelligence confirmation hearing—whether he would call Edward Snowden a traitor—he said many asking this oppose Gabbard because she would "reform and curb the excesses and the worst instincts of the intelligence community that at times has gone after presidential candidates". Later that month, after Trump called Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "dictator" and said Ukraine was at fault for the Ukraine war, Schmitt said Zelenskyy should not be "openly criticizing" Trump and should "stop lecturing" him. Schmitt said Trump had spoken "a lot on the campaign trail" about "trying to negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine. ... == PSP and cyanobacteria == PSP toxins (of which saxitoxin is the most ubiquitous) are produced in eukaryotic dinoflagellates and prokaryotic cyanobacteria (usually referred to as blue-green algae). Within the freshwater marine ecosystem, the largest contribution in the accumulation of PSP toxins derives from saxitoxin produced by cyanobacteria. The biosynthesis of saxitoxin is well-defined in cyanobacteria, while within dinoflagellates it remains mostly unknown. Belize was granted independence on 21 September 1981. Guatemala refused to recognize the new nation because of its longstanding territorial dispute, claiming that Belize belonged to Guatemala. After independence about 1,500 British troops remained in Belize to deter any possible Guatemalan incursions. With George Cadle Price at the helm, the PUP won all national elections until 1984. In that election, the first national election after independence, the PUP was defeated by the United Democratic Party (UDP). UDP leader Manuel Esquivel replaced Price as prime minister, with Price himself unexpectedly losing his own House seat to a UDP challenger. The PUP under Price returned to power after elections in 1989. The following year the United Kingdom announced that it would end its military involvement in Belize, and the RAF Harrier detachment was withdrawn the same year, having remained stationed in the country continuously since its deployment had become permanent there in 1980. British soldiers were withdrawn in 1994, but the United Kingdom left behind a military training unit to assist with the newly created Belize Defence Force. The UDP regained power in the 1993 national election, and Esquivel became prime minister for a second time. Soon afterwards, Esquivel announced the suspension of a pact reached with Guatemala during Price's tenure, claiming Price had made too many concessions to gain Guatemalan recognition. The pact may have curtailed the 130-year-old border dispute between the two countries.
==== Labiaplasty by de-epithelialization ==== Labial reduction by de-epithelialization cuts and removes the unwanted tissue and preserves the natural rugosity (wrinkled free-edge) of the labia minora, and preserves the capabilities for tumescence and sensation. Yet, when the patient presents with much labial tissue, a combination procedure of de-epithelialization and clamp-resection is usually more effective for achieving the aesthetic outcome established by the patient and her surgeon. In the case of a woman with labial webbing (redundant folding) between the labia minora and the labia majora, the de-epithelialization labiaplasty includes an additional resection technique – such as the five-flap Z-plasty ("jumping man plasty") – to establish a regular and symmetric shape for the reduced labia minora.
== Extracellular NAMPT == Extracellular NAMPT (eNAMPT) is functionally different from intracellular NAMPT (iNAMPT), and less well understood (which is why the enzyme has been given so many names: NAMPT, PBEF and visfatin). iNAMPT is secreted by many cell types (nobably adipocytes) to become eNAMPT. The sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) enzyme is required for eNAMPT secretion from adipose tissue. eNAMPT may act more as a cytokine, although its receptor (possibly TLR4) has not been proven. It has been demonstrated that eNAMPT could bind to and activate TLR4. eNAMPT can exist as a dimer or as a monomer, but is normally a circulating dimer. As a monomer, eNAMPT has pro-inflammatory effects that are independent of NAD+, whereas the dimeric form of eNAMPT protects against these effects. eNAMPT/PBEF/visfatin was originally cloned as a putative cytokine shown to enhance the maturation of B cell precursors in the presence of Interleukin-7 (IL-7) and stem cell factor, it was therefore named "pre-B cell colony-enhancing factor" (PBEF). When the gene encoding the bacterial nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (nadV) was first isolated in Haemophilus ducreyi, it was found to exhibit significant homology to the mammalian PBEF gene. Rongvaux et al. demonstrated genetically that the mouse PBEF gene conferred Nampt enzymatic activity and NAD-independent growth to bacteria lacking nadV. === Cell integrity loss === Cell integrity loss is caused by bacteria releasing dissolved algicidal compounds, which are toxic to algae, into the surrounding water, causing rapid cell lysis of algae cells. Cell lysis occurs when algicidal enzymes or small molecules degrade cell walls and membranes, causing structural collapse. While most compounds released by algicidal bacteria cause cell lysis by damaging the algae cells walls, other lysis inducing mechanisms can include ion permeability disruption, and acidification of the cytoplasm by small molecules passing through the cell wall. An example of a bacterium which causes cell integrity loss is a strain of Alteromonas abrolhosensis, named JY‑JZ1, which when cultured, showed strong algicidal activity. Through microscopy, researchers found that algal cells exposed to this bacterium had damaged cell membranes and leaked intracellular contents which indicates cell death by lysis.
